お気に入りの靴下：毛玉自慢 / My Favorite Socks: Look at All These Fuzzies!

先日、洗濯物を畳んでいたら、お気に入りの靴下がかなり毛玉だらけになっていることに気が付きました。捨てるべきかしら？とも思ったのですが、なんとなく毛玉が愛おしく思えたのと、靴下も誇らしそうにしている気がして、また引き出しにしまいました。
そんなことから着想を得た一枚です。
壁にも、棚にも。白い犬スクエア
10 x 10cmと両手に収まるサイズでありながら、厚みは3.7cm。コロンとした小さなキャンバスに描いたこの作品を「白い犬スクエア」と名付けました。壁掛けはもちろん、自立するので好きな棚に置いて飾ることもできます。
“スクエア”は、四角をイメージする以外に人が集まる広場も想起させます。白い犬スクエア作品がズラッと並ぶと、人の数だけある、私たちの日々のおかしみをあれこれ眺めているようですし、この小さな作品を集めたくなるような楽しさ、コレクションした壁を想像するワクワク感につながるように感じています。

While folding laundry the other day, I noticed that my favorite socks had gotten pretty fuzzy. They were covered in pilling — those little balls of fiber that appear on socks or sweaters after lots of wear.
I wondered if it was time to toss them, but instead, I found the fuzzies kind of endearing. The socks even looked a little proud, as if they knew how much they’ve been loved. So I fold them and put them back in the drawer.
This piece was inspired by that small moment.
Hang it or stand it, The White Dog Square:
This is a palm-sized, charming little painting on a 10 x 10 cm (3.9 x 3.9 in) canvas with a chunky 3.7 cm (1.5 in) depth. I named them The White Dog Square series.
It can be hung on a wall, of course, but it also stands on its own—perfect for display on a shelf or table.
When these pieces are displayed together, it feels like looking into a collection of small joys and quirky moments from many different lives. I hope they spark joy in one's desire to grow a collection of small square canvases.
