今回のDMハガキ用に描いたこの絵は4月に帰省した実家の玄関から着想を得ています。
私は、母がお庭の花をさりげなく生けるのが大好きなんです。今回の個展準備を始めようとしていた春に実家に帰省した際、このお花が玄関で出迎えてくれました。どこから見ても愛らしくって、でもこのお花だと7月に春のイメージなっちゃうかなぁと思ったのですが、その時に一番心にグッとと来たことを絵にすることを信条としているので、このモチーフで行くことに決めました。
おじぎをしている草花を見ると、思わず私もペコリとしたくなるので、今回はこの小さな子にそのイメージを投影しました。律儀にヘルメットを脱いでいるのがかわいいところです。ちなみに、大人2人はコーヒーを飲んでいますが、そのコーヒーは2024年に描いた《はしご》のコーヒー屋さんのもの、という想定で、お店がこの絵の上側にあるイメージで描いています。

This piece, featured on the invitation postcard for my upcoming exhibition in July, was inspired by the entryway at my parents’ home when I visited in April.
My mother arranges flowers in a simple, unassuming way—always with a little playful spirit tucked in. When I came home that spring to start preparing for the show, these flowers were there to greet me by the door. They looked so sweet from every angle that I immediately fell for them.
At first, I wondered whether choosing such a springlike flower might feel out of season for a July exhibition. But I always try to go with what moves me most deeply at the moment I begin a piece—so I followed that feeling.
When I see plants bowing gently, I can’t help but want to bow back. This time, I projected that feeling onto this small child, who’s politely removed their helmet. By the way, the two adults are enjoying coffee—which, in my imagination, is from the same coffee stand that appears in Yum-hopping [2024]. I pictured the shop sitting just above the top of this painting.
